Habari!

I’m Kenton Campbell, the founder of Kiwanda Café and Zarraffa’s Coffee.

Habari means HELLO in Swahili, a universal language that is spoken in East Africa, from where some of our handpicked coffee crops are grown. It’s a language that is special to me, representing a connection to this beautiful coffee region.

Incorporating the Swahili term for factory – Kiwanda - into the name of our brand, we are proud to bring the warmth and authenticity of East Africa to our home here in Australia.

A natural extension of the Zarraffa’s Coffee experience, Kiwanda Café is adjacent to our Roastery on Distillery Road. I had always envisaged a specialty coffee bar for this space, but as our plans took shape, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to create a holistic experience with the inclusion of a café, roastery tours and a unique event space.

Sourcing a selection of carefully curated coffee varietals, Kiwanda Café is a hub for specialty coffee methods and a discovery centre for learning about the intricacies of the coffee world. With a full kitchen onsite, our talented chefs serve up a delicious café menu, catering for both breakfast and lunch daily. Exploring new flavours gives us the opportunity to connect personally with our customers, curating favourite dishes and enabling our team to continuously refine and develop our food offering.

From the conversion of our existing warehouse home, Kiwanda Café has been defined by its architectural contrast. We have carefully designed the space to be fully immersive and experiential for our customers. Whether you are stopping by for your daily coffee, dining with us, celebrating with friends, catching up for a drink, or discovering new coffee flavours, Kiwanda Café is the perfect destination.

Evolving from the Zarraffa’s Coffee brand, Kiwanda Café has a deep connection to this business, its cherished employees and those team members who may no longer be with us. This legacy includes a beautifully carved Zarraffa’s Coffee sign created by one such individual that now takes pride of place in the Espresso Bar.

The original signwriter, Peter Lamb, produced this beautifully handcrafted piece and sadly passed away not long after from childhood Leukemia. The original sign now stands pride of place at Kiwanda Café in his memory and as a symbol of those who have supported us throughout our journey. It not only embodies all the wonderful memories of how we came to be, but I also like to think of it as a dreamcatcher, capturing all the great dreams of our team; past, present and future.

On that note, I invite you to join us at Kiwanda Café, a place where coffee is more than just a drink.

A place where coffee is the epicentre of connection, discovery and celebration.

I hope to see you soon,
